Welcome! This privacy notice explains how THIS IS HOUSE handles the personal information you share with us when you visit our websites, including both thisishouse.ca and musicweekmontreal.com. We’re a Montréal-based not-for-profit and we follow Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and any other laws that apply. Our goal is simple: tell you, in clear terms, what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

1. About This Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how THIS IS HOUSE ("TIH", "we", "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you visit our websites: www.thisishouse.ca or www.musicweekmontreal.com (each, a “Site” and collectively the “Sites”) or purchase tickets to our events through our official ticketing partner Tixr. It is designed to meet the requirements of Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as modernized by Law 25.

2. Who We Are

TIH is a Québec‑based not‑for‑profit organisation that produces electronic music events. Our registered mailing address is 8975 Rue Millen, H2M 1W6, Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Under Law 25, the person with the highest authority in our organisation is automatically designated as the Person in Charge of the Protection of Personal Information. For TIH, this role is fulfilled by Jamie Pinney. You may contact the Privacy Officer at jamie@thisishouse.ca.

3. What Personal Information We Collect

3.1 When You Browse the Sites

• Technical data: IP address, browser type and settings, device identifiers.
• Usage data: pages visited, time spent, clicks, referring URLs.
• Tracking technologies: cookies and similar technologies set by Google Analytics.

3.2 When You Purchase Tickets on Tixr

• Contact data: name, email address, telephone number.
• Transaction data: tickets purchased, event attended, order ID.
• Payment data: processed directly by Tixr; TIH does not receive full payment‑card details.
• Tracking technologies: cookies and similar technologies set by Meta Pixel.

3.3 Information We Receive from Tixr

TIH receives limited purchase details (e.g., ticket type, quantity) and contact information necessary to manage entry, provide customer service, and send post‑event communications.

4. Purposes for Collecting & Using Personal Information

• Operate, secure, and improve the Sites and services (analytics).
• Process and confirm ticket purchases; provide customer support.
• Send transactional and event‑related communications.
• Send marketing messages with your consent (e.g., newsletters, event announcements).
• Measure the effectiveness of advertising via the Meta Pixel.
• Comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

5. Legal Grounds for Processing

We rely primarily on express consent, obtained through our cookie banner and at the point of purchase. Certain processing that is obvious from context (e.g., issuing a ticket you request) is permitted without additional consent under the Québec Privacy Act.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use the following third‑party cookies:

• Essential cookies that keep the sites functioning (e.g., session and load-balancer cookies).
• Google Analytics cookies that help us understand how visitors use the sites.

You can disable cookies at any time through your browser settings.

7. Disclosure to Third Parties

We share personal information only with:

• Service providers acting on our behalf (e.g., web host, Google, Meta).
• Tixr, to fulfil ticket sales and manage entry.
• Law‑enforcement or regulatory bodies, where required by law or to protect our rights.

8. International Transfers

Your information may be stored or processed outside Québec. In such cases, we ensure that the information receives an equivalent level of protection and is not used for purposes other than those described in this Policy.

9. Retention of Personal Information

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes set out above or to meet legal requirements. Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months. Marketing contact lists are reviewed annually and inactive contacts are deleted after 24 months.

10. Security Measures

We use TLS encryption, access controls, and regular security monitoring. Role-based access controls are in place; reasonable administrative; technical; and physical safeguards are taken to protect personal information.

11. Your Rights Under Law 25

You may:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
• Request rectification of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Withdraw consent at any time (with future effect).
• Request cessation of dissemination or de‑indexing of information.
• Obtain a portable copy of your information (effective 22 September 2024).

12. Automated Decision‑Making

TIH does not use automated decision‑making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals.

13. Confidentiality Incidents & Breach Notification

In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious harm, TIH will promptly notify the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec and affected individuals, and will maintain a register of such incidents.

14. Links to Third‑Party Sites

The Sites may contain links to external websites, including Tixr. TIH is not responsible for the privacy practices of these sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

15. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be posted on the Sites 30 days before they take effect unless a different period is required by law.
